Skydiving Video Confusion

When you go skydiving and have it videotaped, the video guy falls in front of the skydiver and tapes the freefall. The jumper pulls the ripcord, slows his fall, while the video guy continues to freefall for quite some time, far below the jumper. Jeff had done his jump, had it taped, and his mom, when watching it, asked, "How'd you get yourself to go up like that?"
